La houlette de Mnémosyne. Écouter et recueillir le chant dans les Idylles de Théocrite

Abstract : Theocritean bucolic Idylls are constructed upon the fiction of orality and this induces the problem of the reception and the transmission of characters’ voices, as produced by the poet. I enter the ‘matrix’ of their world, especially Idylls I, VII and XI, and demonstrate how their dialogues subtly create a significant network that displays Theocritus’ ability. Idyll I shows how songs are produced, received and transmitted; Idyll VII points to their eristic nature and Idyll XI deals with solitary singing, without any listening and the risks of silence.
