Redéfinir une juridiction professionnelle. Artistes et assistantes de production dans les projets d’art contemporain

Abstract : Project-based organization leads to experimentation with various work situations and requires reorganization, for instance when the size of a project involves intervention by a large number of actors. Depending on the project, the same professional perform different circumstantial jurisdictions. I define a “circumstantial jurisdiction” as a relatively stable set of tasks that professionals perform in specific contexts. The article questions the conditions of possibility and acceptability of circumstantial jurisdictions for professionals, based on the ethnographic study of a contemporary art work project in a foundation, supplemented by semi-directive interviews with professionals. It aims to show how some professionals (production assistants) encourage an artist to experiment a circumstantial jurisdiction and transform the organization of work building on material and organizational devices. In addition, production assistants also work on ensuring the acceptability of this change for the artist, by placing themselves in a position of care, at his or her service.
