Percepción social de las actuaciones prioritarias para la rehabilitación del río Serpis en la Safor (Valencia)

Abstract : The Serpis River in la Safor region has historically been a source of resources for its inhabitants. However, currently, the disassociation of the population with the river, as well as the changes in the economic activity of the region, have led to a deterioration in its conservation status. The objective of this study was to investigate the social perception of the conservation status of the river and its specific problems, along with the actions that are considered as a priority for its rehabilitation. Personal interviews were conducted with different actors and a digital online survey was developed, which was disseminated via different media. In addition to analysing the data collected in the surveys, a prioritization matrix was developed to evaluate the most prioritized actions for the rehabilitation of the river, based on several decision factors. The most priority actions were environmental awareness, river’s cleanliness, control of illegal wells, control of sewage water and organic pollution, respect for the minimum ecological flow, the creation of a green filter and the control of invasive plant species. This study may serve as a guide to advance in a coordinated way towards the environmental improvement of the river and its associated riparian ecosystem.
