Abstract : « I am the Law. » Contemporary Forms of Men’s Legal Battles Against WomenThe law expresses the balance of power between dominant and dominated, between men and women. This article analyzes two examples : political debates about joint parental authority after divorce, on the one hand, and regulations concerning pensions for mothers retiring from civil service, on the other. Through these examples, the author demonstrates how men sometimes succeed in turning gender equality to their profit. They exploit certain contradictions between the European and the French legal systems and instrumentalize the paradoxes caused by the coexistence of the universal principles of equality on the one hand and affirmative action on the other.
