Les Italiens en Russie en 1812 : état de la recherche

Abstract : The author examines the evolution of the 1812 Russian Campaign memory in Italy, analyzing how this « site of remembrance », initially removed from the 19th century historiographical tradition, has been progressively integrated into the national history, to the point of looking like a heroic event that finds a place in the Pantheon of the battles of the Risorgimento. After recalling the main points that characterized the Italian participation in the 1812 Franco-Russian War, the author reviews the transformations of the image of this event after the fall of the Napoleonic empire. The essay concludes by examining current historical research and comments on the results of the recent studies that helped to revive and renew themes, approaches and interpretations of the 1812 War, which are also marked by the persistence of clichés and preconceived ideas which still tend to eclipse the first Russian campaign memory in Italy.
