Les fortifications d’Amphissa, de l'Antiquité à l'époque contemporaine : premières observations de terrain et essai de bilan

Abstract : Situated in a fertile valley at the end of the Gravia pass, between the steep slopes of Ghiona and Parnassos, the city of Amphissa, since antiquity, occupies a strategic location in the political and military history of the area. This is reflected in the extent of the fortifications from all periods that are still preserved today. Faced with the challenge of understanding these remains, which have thus far received relatively little attention, an international and interdisciplinary team was formed in 2017 with the aim of studying the defensive systems of Amphissa over the longue durée. This paper presents the first results of this enquiry.
