Défense d’entrer ! L’architecte comme médiateur ?

Abstract : In this paper, we propose to lay a conceptual basis in order to (re)think architecture as an "art of passages". We will then examine the extent to which, as such, it allows one to question the relation between the architect and transgression. To that end, we will first study architect and burglar Trophonios as depicted in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo and Pausanias’ Description of Greece, who, we will argue, can be thought of as an archetype. We will then analyze Rudy Ricciotti’s MuCEM, as an example of the ruses that a real architect can deploy, if not to transgress, at least to stage transgressions.
