Abstract

This chapter is concerned with education in the multilingual postcolonial context of La Reunion, an overseas French territory, where the relevance of French school programmes built upon the one language-one nation ideology needs to be questioned. I am particularly interested in the links between the different educational actors and I explore the role of communal employees (assistantes de maternelle) in pre-school education.
