Abstract : This article discusses Ricœur’s readings of Rawlsian and post-Rawlsian theories of justice. Its central argument is that the moral and political philosophy Ricœur develops through his reading of Rawls refracts Ricœur’s position in the religious field and adapts his political and religious stances—which remain close to the personalism and Christian existentialism of his youth—to the requirements of the French philosophical field of the 1980s. The article first examines the genesis of Ricœur’s philosophical project, and then focuses on books 7-9 of Oneself as Another and on Amour et justice, discussing how they are informed by this Christian ethos.
